Toronto
Meet new people in Toronto by doing something together.
Skip the Chit Chat is a social club and app for small, real-life plans around the city. No swiping and no endless group chat. Pick a plan, grab a spot, show up.
What it is
Making friends in Toronto is rarely about finding people. There are three million of them. It's about having a reason to be in the same room more than once. Skip the Chit Chat gives you that reason: a feed of small plans around the city, each with a time, a place and a limited number of spots.
You aren't matched with a stranger or asked to write a clever opener. You choose something you'd enjoy anyway, and everyone else who shows up chose it too. That's most of the small talk solved before you arrive.
How it works
- Get the app. It's in beta: TestFlight on iPhone, Google Play on Android.
- Grab a spot. Browse plans by interest and book the ones you like. Groups are small and spots are limited.
- Show up. Meet your group there and pay at the venue.
Already heading to a hike, a dinner or a coffee run? Post it. Choose how many spots, tag it, and let members who share your interests join you. Posting is free.
The kinds of plans you'll find
- Active: hikes, climbing, tennis, pickup soccer, group rides along the Martin Goodman Trail.
- Creative: pottery and other hands-on classes.
- Social: dinners, patios, wine tastings, coffee.
What's on changes with the season and with what members post, so the app is the place to see this week's list.
Questions people ask
Is Skip the Chit Chat free?
Yes. It's free to join, free to post a plan, and there's no subscription. You pay the venue directly for whatever the plan costs, such as a class or your dinner.
Why do some plans ask for a card?
Some plans ask for a card to hold your spot, because small groups fall apart when people don't show. Nothing is charged when you book or attend. Cancelling 48 hours or more ahead is free, cancelling later costs half the no-show fee, and not showing up costs the full fee. The app shows the amount before you book.
Can I go alone?
Yes. That's the normal way to do it. Plans are built for people who don't already know each other.
Is it a dating app?
No. There are no profiles to swipe through. It's built around activities, and you meet whoever else wanted to do the same thing.
Is it only in Toronto?
Toronto is our home city, and the app also runs in San Francisco and Bangkok.
